Peter E.Flynn

Attorney Flynn was born in Everett, Massachusetts, in 1950 and is a 1973 graduate of Bowdoin College. He received his law degree from New England School of Law and was admitted to the Massachusetts Bar in 1978.

Before founding The Law Offices of Peter E. Flynn, P.C., Attorney Flynn served as an Assistant Attorney General for 5 years.

Attorney Flynn currently remains a Special Assistant Attorney General under Attorney General Martha Coakley, representing and defending various state agencies including Massachusetts Highway Department and has been consistently assigned to defend significant Eminent Domain cases.

Attorney Flynn was recently featured in Massachusetts Lawyers Weekly for obtaining the 4th largest jury verdict in the state during the year 2000. Attorney Flynn was also featured in the "Article of the Week" in the Lawyers Weekly issue of February 5, 2001.

Peter Flynn's practice invloves representation of private landowners, as well as various state agencies in Eminent Domain matters. In addition, Mr. Flynn handles insurance defense litigation, as well as G.L. c. 40B comprehensive development issues, environmental law, and governmental relations.

Mr. Flynn was appointed by Attorney General Thomas Reilly to the Education and Training Committee of the Office of the Attorney General, where he was responsible for training Assistant Attorneys General in the preparation of conducting trials in the various Massachusetts courts. Mr. Flynn is also the faculty consultant for the Real Estate Program at Northeastern University School of Business and is responsible for the appointment of real estate faculty members, textbook adoptions, and the scheduling of courses.

Mr. Flynn has tried eminent domain and insurance defense cases in Superior Courts and District Courts in virtually every county in the Commonwealth.  He continues to represent and defend a number of cities and towns as Special Counsel as well as insurance companies and their insureds.

On Valentine's Day, February 14, 2000, Mr. Flynn obtained the largest reported jury verdict in an Eminent Domain case in the history of Plymouth County. In that case, a plaintiff landowner was awarded $5,175,000 for the taking of a 33.56-acre parcel of land in the town of Kingston. On the defendant's side, Mr. Flynn was the lead trial counsel in one of the largest "Big Dig" central artery cases in the history of the Commonwealth, which involved a parcel of property that is now the location of the entrance to the entire Ted Williams Tunnel facility.

He has authored several sections of the Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education series, including the sections on Eminent Domain involving the defense of well site locations and the valuation issues pertaining to sand and gravel. Mr. Flynn has published articles on real estate matters and has published a textbook known as The Fundamentals of Real Estate, which has been used at a number of universities and colleges in eastern Massachusetts and was the principle text used for the Real Estate Program at Northeastern University. Mr. Flynn has also written articles for the New England Real Estate Journal and has been a consultant to American College Testing Service and Assessment Systems, Inc., as an exam writer for state-required real estate tests.
